Proposed Documentary: Jai Jagat (The Unity of the Universe)
The objective of this documentary is to excavate the Bhoodan memories through the narratives of Vinoba Bhave’s companions, village artisans, Dalits, tribals, landless agricultural workers, and all those who were witness to and participant in that noble endeavor in the decades following the independence of India in 1947.The documentary would largely locate itself in the tribal district of undivided Koraput, in South Orissa where Bhoodan movement was very strong. By invoking the unique ethos and values of the Bhoodan days and juxtaposing them with the contemporary scenario in the same area, an attempt would be made to interrogate the development paradigm in place over half a century and its devastating consequences for man and nature alike. In doing so I hope to bring to the fore a vision and a way of life that was so passionately practiced by Gandhi, Vinoba and many of their ilk for whom Swaraj was meaningless without Sarvodaya (the well being of all).- a powerful legacy that is conspicuously absent today in the knowledge domain from textbooks to television.
