Dicky Sofjan

Dicky Sofjan is a Core Doctoral Faculty in the Indonesian Consortium for Religious Studies (ICRS), an international, interdisciplinary and interreligious Ph.D. program located in the Graduate School of Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM). He teaches various graduate courses on Religion, Politics and American Studies. Before venturing full time into academia, Dicky was an officer, manager and director in several international organizations such as the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), The Nature Conservancy (TNC) and the Asian Public Intellectuals (API) with The Nippon Foundation (TNF).
Dicky has been involved in many consultancies with various organizations in field of deepening democracy, civic education and reforming the multiparty system. In 2010-2011, he was appointed by the Ministry of Development Planning and UNDP to become the Team Leader for Indonesia’s overall Capacity Assessment on Aid for Development Effectiveness and the implementation of the Paris Declaration and the Jakarta Commitment. Dicky holds a Ph.D. in Political Science and is a Prince2 (UK Government) certified Project Manager. He graduated in 2006 from the Policy, Programming and Operations (PPO) Training of the UN System in New Delhi, India.
Throughout his journey, Dicky has visited, lived, studied and worked in almost twenty countries, where he just likes to listen, observe and learn about other people, societies and the different ways of living and surviving in the ever complex, contemporary world. He has a deep passion in underground Sufism, and still travels extensively doing lifetime research about life, culture, politics, religion and spirituality.
Dicky is a PADI Certified Advanced Diver, who has conducted logged dives in the Komodo National Park, Derawan (East Kalimantan) and Raja Ampat (West Papua). He currently lives with his family in a village in the northern part of the city of Yogyakarta, close to one of the world’s most active volcanos, Mount Merapi, and next to a paddy field and river.
